Afraid of the Bible?

Many people in the world who claim they are Christians are not very knowledgeable of the Bible. They love Christ but think that the Bible is only for those who are in ministry, those who are super-spiritual, or those who are learned. However, these thoughts are oftentimes fueled by an underlying fear of the Bible. Some have tried to read it and found many things hard to understand and thus gave up trying. They would rather hear someone expound on the Bible (which is necessary), rather than personally get into it themselves.

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. Luke 24:45 (KJV)

God has left His word for the benefit of those that serve Him. Though many challenge the authenticity and validity of the scriptures, Christians can stand firm that we have the Bible by God’s divine providence. When Jesus appeared to the disciples after the crucifixion, He opened up their understanding so they could understand the scriptures. Christians, today, must not be afraid of the Bible; knowing that Christ who loves us and wants us to have success, will open up our minds to understand.

So, today, pick up your Bible and try again. You will find that Christ will give you understanding if you have faith and patience.

Deliver Me from Me

It is interesting to note that many external oppositions exists to frustrate our walk and growth in Christ. However, there is an enemy that we must all face; that is, the enemy of self. We may be able to escape people, circumstances, and situations, but where can you run from yourself. Every Christian has to come to a place where they ask God to deliver them from themselves.

Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Psalms 19:13 (KJV)

David prayed that God would keep him from personal sins and weaknesses; that the things that he may want to do would not have dominion over him. This is to be our prayer. Once we have received forgiveness and freedom in Christ, we are not to allow the desires of the flesh to rule us. When we ask God to deliver us from ourselves, we set ourselves us for victory in every area of our lives. Let your prayer be this day, “Deliver Me from Me.”
